It was fantastic to work with Nick on our podcast, he was integral from the first day when work shopping ideas through to the final episode going live. Nick helped us figure out the narrative of the podcast and pulled out the best and strongest stories for each episode. He was able to dig deeper into our ideas and help bring those to life, and then spent a lot of time editing and finessing to make each episode as good as it could be. This was the first time the organisation had worked on a podcast in this way, and it ended up being a great success for us – it resonated strongly with the right audience and helped grow our overall following. Thank you so much Nick for all of your hard work, and for sharing your expertise with all of us to make Kylie: Behind the Seams such a success.
We worked with Nick to uncover the stories of ‘unsung heroes’ within our hospitals. Being new to podcasting ourselves, Nick guided us through every step of the process – finding our point of difference, scripting, finding and briefing talent, tips for getting the best from interviews and more. With the podcasts sometimes recorded in noisy hospital environments, Nick did a fantastic job to ensure the finished product was professional and sleek. The end result was a podcast that was emotive and inspiring.
Hiring Nick was one of the best decisions we made for our podcast, Between the Leaves. As a sound engineer, he’s exactly what you need — meticulous and nuanced — but beyond that, he really understood what it was we were trying to achieve. He dug deeply into the content, found new opportunities for storytelling and helped to shape overall the character of the project. We can’t thank him enough.
The Father Hood decided to release a podcast last year and we needed someone to help us record it. I was connected with Nick and, after talking about the project over the phone, we booked in our first recording session.
It was not long until I had a far better appreciation of what Nick does, which goes far beyond setting up mics and pushing the record button. Nick helped us in ways that have improved our storytelling and business far beyond the podcast project.
Firstly, Nick coached us to tell the story behind our business in a way that was truly compelling. Why we set up The Father Hood and what we are trying to achieve, in a way that the audience would relate to.
Then, Nick pulled apart and rebuilt how individual perspectives and roles could help to tell that story. That is, how we could connect our personal lives and experiences with the mission we were taking on. And how we could characterise our roles as part of the team, highlighting the skills, energy and perspectives that we each bring to the table.
Also, Nick uncovered the interesting perspectives and nuggets of gold in the issues that we’d tackle in each episode of the podcast. Often, we’d find ourselves wanting simple points of resolution – a nice, neat summary of the issues and potential ways to address them. Neat, logical and boring. Nick coached us to pull at unresolved threads and delve into the discomfort of complexity, because that’s where the truth and interest lies. In the end, that’s why people would relate to us, that’s how we’d demonstrate our deep understanding, and ultimately why people would listen.
I can’t recommend Nick and the approach of Story Electric highly enough.
